A group of us from the @realestateboardofgv attended a great event hosted by @theboardoftrade early yesterday morning. The #GVBOT facilitated a fascinating conversation centered around the upcoming federal election and the priorities of Lower Mainland residents via an in-depth survey and analysis of individuals and businesses. What’s at the top of the list? The environment and the economy (way more on the environment and climate change than some might expect), and of course also looking pretty closely at affordability and how this impacts people and their desire/ability to live and work in our region. There’s a lot to consider in the next election, and despite the perceived disconnection from the public between the Canadian government and their role in affordability/housing/urban planning strategies, there’s actually many ways the federal government can positively impact our local communities and housing-related issues (think transit funding, GST on land and purpose-built rentals, mortgage qualification regulation, and the list goes on). We then heard from local candidates from all 4 parties (Green, NDP, Liberal, and Conservative) on the many issues impacting Canadians and B.C. residents. I don’t want to get political in this post (or in the comments - thank you 😉), but I do encourage you all to look beyond headline news and quick fixes - our region requires a balanced and thoughtful approach to deal with these complex issues (now more than ever with environmental factors causing worry to so many). Take a look at the issues, get to know the candidates, do a little homework, and most importantly - vote. 🗳

👩🏼💻 Answer questions - Encourage your tribe (followers) to ask you questions. Position yourself as the real estate expert. Host a Q&A on Instagram Live or have them submit questions through an Instagram story. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌎 Let them into your world - expand your posts outside of your "just listed/sold" and "open house," posts, that can get spammy & boring. Show some of your hobbies, family life, behind the scenes, why you became a realtor, etc.
🤳🏽Engage - okay, I know you're probably tired of hearing me talk about engagement but it's only because 👏🏽it👏🏽is👏🏽essential. Comment, message and share - DAILY. This is such a powerful way to make connections which ultimately keeps you on their mind. Don't forget to engage with local businesses too, show your community some love.
