Norma Jean’s new offering has songs filled with both lyrical and sonic lucid imagery that I’ve been able to relate to. Take for instance the opening track “Orphan Twin” with its uncomfortable, haunting repetitive words expressed through different vocal styles.. melodic, strained, to screaming… “It’s not like you to pretend”. Or “Safety Last” with it’s first line, “I’ll burn every bridge in the world”. I don’t think there’s ever been a time in anyone’s life where they didn’t want to just take that match and destroy everything they know just to start over again… because the feeling of being “infinitely bankrupt” by circumstances and people is taxing on any kind of growth.. which is further supported by “Landslide Defeater”’s haunting melody in the bridge where the lyrics allude to self destruction to numb the harrowing things that may plague our minds in the middle of a weakened cognitive moment. “Trace Levels of Dystopia” quenches the thirst for bitterness while “Translational” is a bit of twisted hope. “Careen” scratches my itch for the irritation gathered by confusion and wanting to let go. “Anna” is reality. The acceptance of it, and the hope in whatever keeps you moving forward. This 8th full length by #NormaJean continues the path of brilliant art in a genre where fresh ideas are few and far between, further solidifying their legacy and one of the underground’s mainstays. “All Hail” indeed…
Pictured are the silk screen cover variant on black/gold split wax limited to 100 hand numbered copies, and the “Almighty”/“Jupiter” variants limited to 500 copies each. Released through @SolidStateRecords.
Next up on our Tom Waits tribute album is sister duo Shelby Lynne and Allison Moorer's beautifully lilting cover of "Ol' 55." Their voices harmonizing just make us so happy, and we know you'll love this version.
The Who - The Kids Are Alright (1979)
Excellent two record set, soundtrack from the film, which includes the definitive versions of several Who classics. Swipe left to see the 1989 tour poster mimicking this album’s cover. Always a great listen. •
#12daysofvinyl day four: “o holy night” the holy grail in your collection.
it’s very hard for me to pick ONE grail from my collection, and i probably could’ve had at least 10 in this post but i picked just the top three i could easily find. all of these i’ve gotten for WAY cheaper than what they’re worth, the panic at the disco one was actually bought for retail forever ago. i think that’s what makes them stand out to me more than the rest.
neck deep- life’s not out to get you - warped tour alt cover - blue with red and yellow splatter
halsey - badlands - urban outfitters alt cover - translucent aqua
panic at the disco - a fever you can’t sweat out - red/black color-in-color

I’m totally feeling myself tonight! I got a whole new outfit yesterday and I am so excited to showcase it at a holiday party tonight. Whenever I am getting ready for a night out, I listen to my favorite artist, Led Zeppelin. Started it off with the OG tonight and it was a great pump up! What album do you put on while getting ready for a night out? •
