Design Inspiration: Having a walk-in pantry like this is particularly useful if you are a bulk shopper at stores like Costco and Sam's Club! It gives you the space to store lots of items and keep them nicely organized.
Do you have a large pantry in your current home or is it on your list for the future place?
They say cats have 9 lives and since my nickname is Kat amongst a small group of friends, I thought I’d share what some of my 9 lives in Portsmouth have been in the 13 years I’ve lived here. Cuz it really feels like I’ve had 9! At least! The environment has always been my thing so looking for like-minded people when I first moved here in this respect was the first life I lived. The first circle in which I played and hoped to make an impact. I joined a study circle, I was on the Mayor’s Blue Ribbon Committee for Sustainable Practices. I volunteered at the sustainability fair. I was on the Sustainable Portsmouth steering committee led by Jim Noucas. Then I created a group in my neighborhood called Zero Waste Portsmouth. We did a lot of things but the biggest thing we did was to create five of these artful zero waste bins which were placed all around downtown. This project took so much effort. More than double what I ever anticipated. I learned so much about the public process, and about working with multiple and I mean multiple stakeholders. It took two years to complete this but we did it! This photo is from the ribbon cutting held in fall 2011 with various city officials including the City Manager, the DPW director and staff, the Deputy Mayor Bob Lister, City Councilors, my team and many friends and supporters. A momentous occasion.
These bins are still scattered around the downtown—8 years on but have been through a lot. Whether or not they last much longer, I am proud of what we did.
