🎄 phew! I was a bit worried I wouldn’t get this finished in time! Thank you to @astitchintime18 for getting the embroidery done so fast! 😊 I love love love how Mr R’s stocking turned out! (His full name is on it, just hidden 😉). This is a self-drafted pattern, but it got me thinking, should I add stockings to the store next year??? 🤔
Christmas hack! To easily update a sweatshirt or t shirt to be Christmas-ready, I've designed a little Rudolph pocket tutorial!
Search "Rudolph" on my website for all the details.
Who do you know that needs a Rudolph sweatshirt?
Deep in design this afternoon - earlier in the year I helped my sister in law clean out her parents’ closet - and she had a really hard time letting go of her dad’s things. I’ve secretly had my husband get a shirt and a belt and I’m making a leather bag with a shirt for the lining and the belt for straps. Yall. Sewing really is a superpower. #sewingismysuperpower
Wow one last class to go on Monday evening and then our 2019 classes are done! Who can guess how many classes & workshops we’ve taught in the studio this year? Guess in the comments...
So strange to think that our studio will be very different in the New Year, lots more space and lots of exciting changes. A HUGE thank you to all the students who’ve visited us this year and we can’t wait to see even more of you in 2020!

LAST DAY to preorder!!
Best pals and many more amazing prints available.
Happy to report that my Minoru Jacket is perfectly adequate for December (even up in Hamburg ❤️)! I did quite some modifications, on which I'll report separately, and everything worked out really well. Most obvious to those who know the pattern will be the significant shortening that I did. I wanted to be able to wear this with wide skirts without interference.
My main fabric is cotton corduroy in the most beautiful peacock green/teal, pattern is by @sewaholic 😊
NEW FABRIC! Sneak peek of what just arrived this afternoon, squeeeee! The top two are new colourways of the lovely soft and stretchy french terry I had earlier this year, in stunning powder pink and red stripes which co-ordinate beautifully. They’d be great for Christmas or Valentine’s Day makes and are warm and cosy for this season.
The cats are super high quality cotton jersey and they are amazing! All these will be listed on the website this evening, if you’d like to reserve some just pop me a message.
My #winslowculottes in action on holiday! Visiting family & friends in Indonesia. .
I’ve been off Instagram studying for the CPA exam. It’s been awful to be away from my sewing family. I made these culottes right after taking my first exam (AUD - Passed!) but never photographed them. I also made a coordinating Ogden Cami to complete the faux-jumpsuit look. .
A bit shorter than ideal as I squeezed an Ogden and pair of Winslow’s into one piece of fabric. Fabric is Tencel Twill from @blackbirdfabrics. .
I’ve put on a few pounds studying since making these in August and they are a wee bit snug. Thankfully still wearable due to how voluminous the legs are. .
Can’t wait to make another pair! Trying to pick up some fabric while in Indonesia but it is proving difficult to communicate with our family friend, our guide for the trip, that I’m looking for fabric by-the-yard and not batik scarves and sarongs.
Who else is planning their Christmas Party outfits?
Here’s a little dress I rustled up a few weeks ago. It’s based on the New Look 6507 pattern which I got with the @simplysewingmag but it’s made with a knit fabric and I incorporated shirring to the waist to provide a bit of definition. A really quick and simple sew, which I’d recommend. I think this is one of the first times I’ve adapted a pattern so much and I’m pleased with the result.
This dress also featured in an article about sustainable clothing, and which I was privileged to be a part of (link in bio) by @hannahclugston .
*A dress should be for life, not just for Christmas. Hannah Clugston goes in search of festive style that won’t damage the planet or exploit its workers.*
Pattern: based on #newlook6507
Fabric: Sparkly gold Jersey from #abakhanmanchester
Pattern: Myosotis Dress by @deer_and_doe_patterns
Fabric: Viscose Crepe from @blackbirdfabrics
Adjustments: for fit I (finally) did a broad back adjustment as well as a full bicep adjustment.
I added ties at the end of the sleeves, I wish I would have made them a bit longer but happy with the look either way. The loose fit doesn’t suit me and I added elastic where the bodice meets the skirt. If I would make it again I would shorten the bodice by 1”. Can’t wait to wear it in more than a week layered up with boots.

Here we return to 2014? I had just set up my very first sewing machine in the living room on top of the sewing machine I learned to sew on.
Hands down my favorite table to put a sewing machine on is an old sewing machine desk!
If you could see my sewing room now it’s a row of old sewing desks with newish machines (relatively speaking) on top.
And the worst thing to put them on? Well the worst thing I’ve ever used was a card table when I was a kid.
I had gotten my first sewing machine for Christmas when I was 15 and money was tight so I set up the machine on our multi purpose card table 😂 it was pretty shaky when the machine was running but it got the job done!
I finally made myself a birthday dress from this embroidered tulle that I've been hoarding, inspired by Sew Frosting. I've seen lots of people sew it up in the black and white version last year and when I looked it up online, it was around $50/m. I couldn't believe my luck when I found 3m second hand at @fabricabracwgtn 😁 .
I made simplicity 8545 in a size 12 with no adjustments other than shortening the sleeves (but several sizes smaller than my measurements indicate). It's still not too tight. I made the slip as well and adjusted it so it's more closely fitting. .
I french seamed everything, used black silk organza to stabilise the zip (highly recommend!) and fold over elastic to finish the neckline and sleeves. I've decided to leave the hem raw because I don't think it will fray. .
Overall, a very successful make but unfortunately I'm now sick and probably won't even get to wear it on my birthday. 🙄 (I'll model it when I don't look like a giant booger). Maybe I'll save it for Christmas.
