Angkor Wat is huge, it's the largest religious monument on earth and yet it only covers a relatively small portion of the former city known as Angkor.
Angkor holds the title as the largest pre-industrial city on earth. For a nation to be able to maintain such a large urban area filled with many magnificent constructions required an enormous amount of wealth and it was Angkors mastery of water which allowed such wealth to amass.
“Southeast Asia has a real grip on me. From the very first time I went there, it was a fulfillment of my childhood fantasies of the way travel should be” - Anthony Bourdain
Here’s a few locals on a slim patch of land that is still above the water. They had stopped work about to serve up some lunch. You’d often see the kids off to the side jumping of the house steps into the water or boats into the water. It was seriously surreal seeing how in tune these people are with the water. It’s just a part of life for them.

How do I get to travel so much? One of the most common questions I’m asked is HOW I get to travel. So I thought I would address that here.
The truth is - there is no secret formula for being able to travel often. I’m a full time student at my university (and no I don’t do study abroad constantly) and I work 20-25 hours a week at my on campus student job. .
Over the summer I work a full time job and still accept other part time jobs such as housekeeping or babysitting on the side to save up even more money. .
I don’t spend a lot of money throughout the academic year. I don’t go out or eat fast food (which is actually good for more than one reason). .
The point is: the reason I’m able to travel is because this is my passion. Even if it takes every cent I make (and sometimes it does) it’s worth it to me.
