The Earth was once believed to be the centre of the universe. For 2000 years ancient astronomers believed that the Earth was static and had other celestial bodies travelling in circular orbits around it. They believed this because of the apparent movement on the Sun and planets in relation to their viewpoint. In 1543, Copernicus published his Sun-centered model of the Solar System which put the Sun at the centre of our solar system.
Quantum computers with the ability to perform complex calculations, encrypt data more securely and more quickly predict the spread of viruses, may be within closer reach thanks to a new discovery by Johns Hopkins researchers. “We’ve found that a certain superconducting material contains special properties that could be the building blocks for technology of the future,” says Yufan Li, a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at The Johns Hopkins University and the paper’s first author.
Today’s computers use bits, represented by an electrical voltage or current pulse, to store information. Bits exist in two states, either “0” or “1.” Quantum computers, based on the laws of quantum mechanics, use quantum bits, or qubits, which do not only use two states, but a superposition of two states.

Our closest galaxy neighbour, the Andromeda Galaxy, is moving towards our galaxy, the Milky Way, in about 400 000 km/h. This means that in about 4 billion years, the two galaxies will collide, merge and form the Milkomeda Galaxy.
While the Andromeda Galaxy contains about 1 trillion stars and the Milky Way contains about 300 billion, the chance of even two stars colliding is negligible because of the huge distances between the stars.
For example, the nearest star to the Sun is Proxima Centauri, about 4.2 light-years away. To visualize that scale, if the Sun were a ping-pong ball, Proxima Centauri would be a pea about 1,100 km away. Although stars are more common near the centers of each galaxy, the average distance between stars is still 160 billion km. That is analogous to one ping-pong ball every 3.2 km. Thus, it is extremely unlikely that any two stars from the merging galaxies would collide.
The Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies each contain a central supermassive black hole. These black holes will converge near the centre of the newly formed galaxy over a period that may take millions of years, due to a process known as dynamical friction. When they come within one light-year of one another, they will begin to strongly emit gravitational waves that will radiate further orbital energy until they merge completely.

Or, conversely, how could the universe be younger? 🌟The mystery of the age of HD 140283 is leading to something bigger and more scientifically complex, altering the understanding of how the universe works. 🌟 HD 140283 is 190.1 light-years away. Astronomers refined the star's age to about 14.3 billion years (which is older than the universe), plus or minus 800 million years.

The most powerful and complex telescope that @nasa has ever built will explore the cosmos using infrared light; from planets and moons within our solar system to the earliest and most distant galaxies.
In one of their recent updates, the two halves of the telescope have been successfully joined and the deployment has been tested. The telescope now stands as an assembled observatory.
After many delays, the space telescope is planned to launch in March, 2021.
In physics, string theory is a theoretical framework in which the point-like particles of particle physics are replaced by one-dimensional objects called strings. It describes how these strings propagate through space and interact with each other. On distance scales larger than the string scale, a string looks just like an ordinary particle, with its mass, charge, and other properties determined by the vibrational state of the string. In string theory, one of the many vibrational states of the string corresponds to the graviton, a quantum mechanical particle that carries gravitational force. Thus string theory is a theory of quantum gravity.
The planet Jupiter has a system of ringsknown as the rings of Jupiter or the Jovian ring system. It was the third ring system to be discovered in the Solar System, after those of Saturn and Uranus. It was first observed in 1979 by the Voyager 1 space probe and thoroughly investigated in the 1990s by the Galileo orbiter.It has also been observed by the Hubble Space Telescope and from Earthfor several years. Ground-based observation of the rings requires the largest available telescopes.
