When you live with chronic illness, sometimes things will be clear in regards to diagnosis, treatment and symptom expectations and management...
And most of the time, things are unclear, unpredictable and uncertain.
How we cope with uncertainty can really be a predictor in how we cope with chronic illness. In fact, in one study, researchers examined the role of illness uncertainty in pain coping among 51 women with Fibromyalgia. They found that ‘pain elevations in the presence of illness uncertainty predicted increases in coping difficulty. Furthermore, when participants had more difficulty coping, they also had lower levels of coping efficacy.’
In non research speak - this basically means that when we experience difficult symptoms AND our illnesses are unpredictable - the combination leads to lower levels of confidence in how we manage our illness and therefore we have worse outcomes.
So what can we do about this? First, we can learn how to better accept uncertainty and unpredictability of our illness. This can be done using Mindfulness approaches focusing on concepts such as acceptance and living in the moment. We can also use cognitive behavior strategies and learn self management techniques, like stress management, disease management and communication skills. All of these strategies can be taught and practiced in therapy! 🙌🏻 and can reduce the burden of unpredictable illnesses.

~ Mijn mening, waar ik bij blijf! ~
Will tight hamstrings lead to back pain in the future 🤔
This old research paper (Hellsing, 1988) followed around 600 young men during their military service, over a period of four years 👨🏾✈️👩✈️
Tight hamstrings was common in this group, with only 43 % of the right and 35 % of the left leg reaching an angle of at least 80 degrees during the straight leg raise test.
Tight hamstrings muscles was not shown to correlate to the incidence of back pain during the four years period.
Back pain is non-homogeneous 🤷🏿♂️🤔
The are many modifiable factors that can influence back pain.
Risk factors: sedentary lifestyle (hence weak muscles and generally deconditioned), overwhelmed with stress, being scared of pain, poor sleep (fatigue and run-down immune system).
I guess key message, don’t stress about individual structures, stay active, sleep well and find appropriate coping strategies when feeling stressed 🏃🏿♂️🏸🏋️♀️🏊🏿♀️🚴🏻♂️

How many of you in the course of holding discussions centred around workplace wellness, consider your homes as part of the discussions?
Yes your homes oh!
Because most of you hire some form of domestic help?
Gatemen, caregivers, cleaners, chefs?
How consderate are you of their wellbeing?
☄do you pay them minimum wages or living wages?
☄do you hold their wages in trust (instead of paying them regularly) or do you without regard delay their payment?
☄do you allow them enough sleep/rest time?
☄do you allow them have time off?
☄do you feed them well?
☄do you accord them respect as human beings?
☄do you teach your children to?
☄when they fall ill (which could be stress related to overwork) how do you care for them?
This should give you time to pause and reflect.
Holding conversations might not be a quick solution to the menace of domestic help being deprived of their rights to basic quality health and wellbeing, but it sure is a good start. @thenannyacademyng joined me in the studio today to brainstorm on how we can hold this conversations meaningfully within our community and push...for more homes to imbibe an inclusive and holistic culture of wellness.

It felt so grand to see this giant wave form after crashing upon the rock. Holding my arms out made me feel like Mickey in Fantasmic. Which reminds me... Have you been to Disney recently? Is it worth it? What days are best to go?
Anyways. There has been a fair amount of positive stress right now, so I’m going to try to focus on the beauty the world has to offer. It’s so calming. The sky, water, or greens. There’s always something in this gorgeous world to take the edge off of stress.

=> Was erschöpft mich wirklich in meinem Leben?
Falls Du Variante 2 wählst, so sei Dir gesagt:
Es ist wird anstrengend. Es kann & wird weh tun. Es bedarf viel #Zeit & #Raum . Voraussetzung sind Ausdauer & Konsequenz. Es bedarf #Offenheit , Ehrlichkeit & #Mut . Es wird aufregend. Es wird Dir #Freude bringen.

The Bach Flower remedies can help us. While we don't know the exact causes of SAD, some scientists think that certain hormones made deep in the brain trigger attitude-related changes at certain times of year. Experts believe that SAD may be related to these hormonal changes. One theory is that less sunlight during fall and winter leads to the brain making less serotonin, a chemical linked to brain pathways that regulate mood. When nerve cell pathways in the brain that regulate mood don't function normally, the result can be feelings of depression, along with symptoms of fatigue and weight gain.

I sat on my friends balcony on a Wednesday night after my first “burnout breaking point.” We were supposed to go to happy hour, but instead I sat on her balcony and told her what had happened at work and that I needed to take it easy.
My chest was so tight it felt like it was made of concrete. My shoulders and neck grew rock hard and so tense from stress. My mind was blurry and racing with thoughts:
“What just happened at work today?”
“Am I weak?”
“Did I do something wrong?”
Burnout was happening but I was not familiar with the term and the symptoms. I felt like my body needed a break. I took the next day off and went to 11am yoga and to this day it was the most delicious yoga I’ve ever taken to date.
My body, mind, and soul broke and this yoga was my first attempt at reconnecting with myself. Not knowing what to do other than take a yoga class to clear the stressful energy was a start.
Honestly- you in need of a break? Take a break. You will thank yourself when you do. -Erika 💛| 📸: @gmf.designs

Have you ever heard of therapeutic lifestyle changes? There’s tons of research out there on the TLCs that can be just as effective as medication and therapy for most people. Spending time in nature is one of the eight TLCs. It can be difficult to make lifestyle changes, but the good news is that the TLCs are all things over which you have control. Now get outside and enjoy some nature this weekend! ✨

• h a p p y • s a t u r d a y •
After a tough couple of weeks of exhaustion and self doubt, I’ve woken up today feeling more positive and grounded. I have a good nights sleep, the sun and the sea to thank for that. 🌊🌞✨
• Getting enough sleep is so essential to a healthy work-life-balance and after a decent 8 hours sleep last night, I’ve realised that the lack of sleep over the past two weeks may have been my main problem. I can “function” on 6 hours sleep but had set myself the goal of getting 8 hours per night, as I owe it to myself to do more than “function” each day. Being a ‘nightowl’ since I was wee, it’s difficult for me to do this but I had been getting on well up until recently. With things in work being full on and roadworks messing up my daily commute, I’ve fallen out of a healthy routine. I’m spending 2 hours a day driving through unavoidable traffic so I’m tired and hungry when I get home. After I eat dinner I feel more awake again, so I end up stying up late and can procrastinate going to bed! Anyone else do that?! I can’t get to the gym before work and by the time I get home, I’ve had no energy for any running, yoga or gym sessions. • Waking up this morning and planning lessons for my students, I started to reflect on this and began planning MY WEEK too. I need to plan my own life and timings for next week, to try and make the last week in work before half term a positive and more energised one. I need to put myself first and avoid the ever too familiar “burn out” 🔥🤓
If someone is cruel to you or has violated you in ANYWAY... RELEASE THEM!!! Instead of trying to PROVE YOUR LOVE 💕 or EARN your love; take a step back to evaluate WHO YOU LEARNED THIS ✌🏽EARNING & PROVING✌🏽 behavior from?
Most children are CONDITIONED to EARN OR PROVE our GOODNESS / LOVE/ APPROVAL... to our PARENTS ... and in turn try and do the same thing in relationships ☕️😳(free read & you’re welcome 😉) You don’t have to PROVE ANYTHING TO ANYONE.
The Bible says, let your YES be your YES & your NO BE your NO. Matthew 5:37 💅🏽 You are WORTHY and DESERVING simply because YOU ARE. PERIODT! Allocate an ABUNDANCE of LOVE for YOURSELF. WORK ON YOURSELF. Give & Give & Give to YOURSELF.
Do not waste YOURSELF & YOUR LOVE & YOUR ENERGY & YOUR TIME on people who do not value it. And it doesn’t even mean they are not bad people, they just don’t have the CAPACITY to understand your WORTH. They do not have the MENTAL OR EMOTIONAL DEPTH needed to grasp the FULLNESS of who you are. - #tarotreading#spiritualawakening#communication#relationships#friendships#selflove#selfcare#pourintoyourself#beyourownpeace#healing#blackpsychics#atlpsychics#traumabonding#traumarecovery#stressmanagement#stressrelief#breakups#reallove

Have you ever wondered why you keep ending up in the same old relationship patterns? Or there is one thing that keeps repeating in your life? Here’s why.⠀
We’re actually trying to heal, but going about it in the wrong way. In terms of relationships, we gravitate towards personality types of others that have hurt us, but that we still wanted to be attached to or praised by. ⠀
Now when we recognize someone like that in our world, we subconsciously recognize an opportunity to make them approve of us this time. The problem is that we just end up continually getting hurt.⠀
A sign of growth is not gravitating towards a person, place, feeling, or thing just because it’s familiar. This takes conscious awareness on our part to dig deeper and understanding why we’re leaning towards certain circumstances that cause us pain. The real healing is in choosing something new that will likely lead to less drama, although more uncertainty.⠀

So many people are hard wired into comfort and convenience they do everything they can to eliminate anything that makes them uncomfortable.
Those who truly want to grow and change commit themselves to getting outside their comfort zones. They choose to challenge themselves.
The only thing getting lit this weekend is that little light on my coffee maker 💩☕️

Ist also unbequem. Und die Folge? Etwas Neues.
