Today I went into school late because Arlo has to stay at home until his rash disappears and so my husband and I are tag teaming, going into our own school and then spending time with Arlo at home.
Today was a busy day. We had a whole staff photos, planning time for our integrated topics and then we had time to do our own classroom preparation which was really nice because I definitely needed it!
At the end of the day the new stuff had a meeting about our probationary period and what that will look like for us in terms of passing our probation in 6 months time.
Tomorrow our secondary students start and the primary school students start on Friday. So I have one more day of meetings and planning to get myself ready before the first day with my students.
But first coffee.... ☕️
Wenn die erste Stärkung erfolgt ist, wie wäre es dann mit der Fortbildungsplanung für das nächste Halbjahr?

How exciting is the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL EVER! Parents loved taking photos of kids at school with this @youclevermonkey gum leaf sign 🌿
Hope everyone’s having a great few days back .. and enjoying that ‘naps after school’ start of year phase 😴
LANYARD RESTOCK 08/02/20 10am AWST ❤️🥰 A range of our most loved lanyards will be restocked next Saturday! 😍🥰 SO many of you have messaged asking when our lanyards will be back - now we can finally tell you a date after shopping at my favourite place @thelittlecrafthouseaus 🥰 Which lanyards do you want to get in this restock? 🥳
I always love doing this activity to start the year off! 😍 Something I really noted with the year 4's, was the students who lacked confidence to ask questions to unfamiliar faces. Just by this activity alone, I already saw some students come out of their shells and develop that confidence! 🥰
What a crazy (but amazing) start to the year! 🥰 Yesterday and today my new students and I spent time working through what good/green choices at school are, and what the bad/red choices are 😎 The visual cards are from @pocketofpreschool and they really helped some understand what is acceptable/unacceptable behaviour at school. So far so good 🤣
@teachstarter makes creating beautiful signs for my classroom a breeze! Loving the native and floral borders to adorn my classroom door with!!

✨🦉⚡️FIRST DAY OF YEAR 4 2020⚡️🦉✨ Today I met my beautiful 4C family for the year. To hear them say ‘I’m so lucky I got you!’ or ‘yes! I wanted you as my teacher’ just made my heart explode! They are such kind, polite and eager students that I can’t wait to get to know more. We had our classes for a half day today so I’m excited to spend more time with them in the coming weeks. Hope everyone had a wonderful first day with their students ⚡️🦉✨ #firstdayofschool
When you come to school at 7pm to get ready for a sub. Hate to be out again, but these kids are fantastic and will reach my expectations for them.
Do you leave notes for your students when you are out?

A 7th grader told me today at the end of my lesson: “Mrs. Jones, I really liked the fun way you taught us today and I can always tell when a student teacher is trying to get a job, because they dress to impress like you.” 💁🏼♀️ I’m sure it was a compliment and didn’t know it wasn’t a job interview, and think I’m flattered he thought I looked young enough to be a student teacher.😉 #fulldisclosure#thisis50 Aaaaaaall the details on my awesome day teaching middle school today are documented on my story. 💭 Now, answer this...does a teacher’s clothes affect classroom culture and instruction? Drop your thoughts below.👇

HOMEWORK LOTTERY // Let me tell you about the greatest thing I ever started doing in my classroom. I needed a way to reward students who were always doing their homework. (We can’t and wouldn’t take homework as a grade.) Personally, I try not to spend a lot of money in my classroom, so I also needed something cost efficient. I started doing a homework lottery with my students, and it has been FANTASTIC. Here is how it works:
-Every Monday, I give my students ALL of their homework for the week. (This teaches them time management and responsibility, since they always know they will have all of their homework on Monday)
-Friday mornings, if students come in with completed homework, they get to sign one square of homework lottery
-Once we fill up the board, we have a HOMEWORK LOTTERY! I use two random letter/number generators from google and put the letters HOMEWORK and the numbers on the side. We choose a letter and a number, and whoever wrote their name in that box gets a big prize. (I usually do two no homework passes, a treasure chest, and a lunch with a friend pass) I pick 4-5 students in all, just to keep it motivating for the kiddos.
-Then, we start again!
It has been AH-MAZING! How to you motivate students to complete their homework? ⬇️
