Research is in full swing! We are diving deep into current civil rights movements, looking at past civil rights movements and the history, and picking a movement we want to know more about. We are becoming journalists, writers, and history experts! I am excited to grow with them, figure out answers to questions, and more! #socialjustice#justice#civilrights#litstudio#readersworkshop#writersworkshop
Teacher fail! Or maybe @cbc FAIL? I had linked to this video in my lesson on Trudeau’s omnibus bill and had a whole primary source analysis we were going to do as a class. I played the video and it looked normal but was missing anything of consequence! Like even his famous line of “the state doesn’t belong in the bedrooms of the nation” was missing.
So I had to wing it and try to really make sense of something that didn’t really make sense. This is the day that I teach straight through so I couldn’t find a replacement and even when I tried, all the CBC links were coming up 404 Error. So I had to die by the sword. At my period 3 class i went for it, attempting to teach the impossible and played the video (same link and everything! I didn’t change the slide at all) and the video is.... different. It’s the video I thought it should’ve been! Complete with all the details. Something clearly went wrong at CBC and it’s site today. Also while I’m at it, there’s not expand to full screen or toggle bar.... #teacherlife#teachersofinstagram#iteachcanadianhistory
I haven’t been part of a live theatrical performance since I was in middle school myself (besides a few epic teacher dance acts for Dilworth’s talent show). Today Pine Middle School hosted a staff play “Can Mrs. Clause Save Christmas”. I played Harriet, the villain’s assistant. With 20 lines to memorize and limited rehearsals I was a bit nervous. It turned out great though and was super fun!!! Our students loves it. Thank you all my fellow cast members. You guys rock. .
The closer it gets to Christmas break, the sillier we become! 🤣😜 We celebrated this rainy, freezing, Friday the 13th with some birthday fun, a hot chocolate bar, and yummy comfort food! Oh, and there were LOTS of giggles too! 💙🥳💙🥳
It’s been a busy week. Worked so hard for my class’s Christmas play. They did amazing! 3/5 nights I didn’t get home till gone 8 o’ clock!
Unfortunately I felt so tired, exhausted and drained tonight. I decided to give my staff do a miss, I decided to prioritise my mental and physical health.
If you’re not feeling right, learn to rest. Don’t keep going on an empty tank. Self care is a priority.
Do y’all like my new scarf? 1st grade told me it could be a new fashion trend.
I have had 𝘴𝘰 much fun using the parachute for Trepak with my little kids this week.. and I learned a new music teacher hack through experimentation that I wanna share.
Before using a parachute for a movement activity, use movement scarves. First, we used them in a spread out position and did the routine by mirroring. Then, we got in a circle and did the same routine. By the time the parachute came out, we practically had our movement memorized!
Do you like doing movement at school? What’s your favorite activity?
It’s days like today when I am reminded why I am a teacher and why this matters. 22 years ago I taught this awesome young man at Welborn. Fast forward and I now teach his daughter. Today, she brought me Greek desserts that his mom sent for me. Even after all that time, they still remembered me. It made me feel pretty amazing! ❤️ #teacherlife

What better stereotypical gift could a teacher give away than a book?! 🤣
I am giving away my copy of “Wonder” by RJ Palacio. I thought it would be a great gift teachers looking for a read aloud for class or a parent looking to give a book to their child. This book is perfect for children between the ages of 9-13. And hey, I’m 27 and really enjoyed this book. Like I said this was my copy, so it is slightly used. But I’m ready to pass it along to a good home. Plus we can be environmentally friendly while we’re at! #gogreen

As we near the end of the semester, it’s a great time to assess your students’ math readiness once again. Teachers (and teacher teams) use the Knowledge Tools diagnostic tool to conduct a Mid-Year Analysis. ✏️IDENTIFY: Compare topic percents correct and percentages of students who met critical levels from the start-of-year data set to the mid-year data set.
✏️ANALYZE: Determine growth, paying particular attention to topics that were included in the goals set during the start-of-year analysis.
✏️ADDRESS: Create a plan to reach goals for the next semester.
One of my “whys” stopped by today, just in time for me to need some cheering up. Teaching is HARD y’all. I swear I come to work most days with bags under my eyes and hair lookin a mess. Recently I’ve questioned why I choose to work such a difficult job with so many responsibilities and then this guy shows up from my first year teaching here 😭❤️ This student always had my back when my class was mismanaged, and always was eager to learn. It warms my heart that he’s doing so well in college and that he came back to see me! The kids have always been my reason why and I feel so blessed to make an impression on them.
C H R I S T M A S || B R E A K || 🎄🎄C O U N T D O W N ❄️ D A Y ✨6✨ What are you teaching or planning for your students in these last few days of school?
I’ll be hosting another book project presentation day with holiday drinks and candy cane! I just placed my amazon order of goodies and I can’t wait to get those in the mail!
Depending on all the coffee to get me through the next 6 days!🙃☕️
How are you surviving until break?!👇🏼

Ohhh December; you are magical & wonderful & totally kickin’ my booty! 🤣🌟 I’m trying all the tricks in the world to keep my babes goin! Today, I grabbed a huge pack of gel pens I had sitting on a shelf & let them use them during their writing time & holy moly... that was truly MAGIC. 🤩 I shoulda known.. a little sparkle always does the trick. 😉
