We have managed to go all over the North Island, but we still hadn't seen one of the most "popular" areas, The Coromandel. Endless beaches, green lipped mussels and tropical vibes are just some of the highlights of this part of the country. .
It seemed like most people that we ran into had just arrived in New Zealand. As it's close to Auckland, it's often a first stop for people. After interacting with new Van-dwellers and answering all their questions, we felt like seasoned veterans. We've definitely hit our stride and have settled into a rhythm. .
This might not be forever, but it's pretty good for now
Cooper has a knack for meeting locals. And after finding out he's new to the country, people are quick to share their favorite spots to visit. .
Went for a tramp through the river valley to a Kauri forest. Before turning around, we cooled off in the river. Cooper was less than impressed with this decision
If you told us we'd be here 5 years ago, we wouldn't have believed you.
So happy these two ended up here, of all places ☺️

Health Canada recommends that Canadian travellers don't buy medication in other countries unless they have been advised to do so by a health care professional. Medications in other countries may not meet Canadian Drug Standards, and in some places there is a risk of being sold counterfeit drugs. It is best to plan ahead and leave Canada with the medications you'll need.
To keep in mind:
• Take an extra supply of medication in case you are away longer than expected
• Even though it goes against space-saving instincts, carry all medication in its original packaging so customs screening goes smoothly
• Pack the original prescription with your medications while travelling
• If you have a lot of medication with you, consider asking your doctor for a note that explains why you need it
• It is illegal to carry cannabis across the border, even with a medical prescription
• It is always a good idea to check what drugs are illegal, unavailable, or require prescriptions in the countries you visit
Beautiful tramp around Rivendell from Lord of the Rings. The elves may have moved out, but this place was still magical. .
Always thought I was a dwarf, turns out I have a bit of height on Gimli though 😉

Wellington wasn't windy! It was actually a perfect summer day. We wandered the waterfront and gaped at all the restaurants (I'd like one of everything please). .
For even more fun: Spot the sleeping ducks 🦆 they're everywhere at our campsite. We obviously weren't thinking, Cooper's first toy we got him in NZ "quacks". Poor guy is getting mixed messages

Our pup has arrived! He isn't sure why Dad is sitting on the wrong side of the truck and is a little hot, but otherwise, seems pretty happy. Spending some quality time together and getting rid of some of the floof today

Went house hunting yesterday. Found a few we liked, but nothing in our price range 😋
Truthfully, we spent the day exploring Hobbiton and wandering the grounds. It was such a cool experience and we will definitely be going back again

With all the market treats and eats we have been getting, we figured we should at least work some of it off.
So after running and going to CrossFit, we decided to hike Mount Maunganui. Although it's only an hour hike, it's over 2000m of elevation. Our legs were slightly angry after all that.
Obviously we stopped at another night market to eat our fill right after 😉
We had the pleasure of meeting Tara, Pancake, Biscuit and a few of their friends yesterday
Just a few steps off a beach in Tatapouri is a sting ray nursery. These lovely ladies come back year after year to say hello to their friends. Each had their own quirky personalities and it was amazing to see them come out during our visit
P.s. they love pets, not only does it feel good, but we get the sand off for them too!

From Napier, we drove up to Te Urewera area. In the midst of endless forest and mountains are the bluest lakes. .
We slept next to Lake Waikaremoana, swam with the ducks and fed the fly's. Had an amazing view of the nightsky surrounded by all the sounds and silence of the forest. We trekked a small part of the Lake Waikaremoana Trail and the 1000m elevation nearly killed us

Quick trip to Napier, famous for their art deco style buildings from the 1930's and their wine. .
Ended up with some new ink and treated ourselves by sleeping in a real BED for a night. With real plug ins and running water and everything. Then hit the road again!

A new coronavirus has caused an outbreak of respiratory illness in Wuhan, China. So far the number of cases is small (40 human cases verified so far), but the situation is being closely monitored by Chinese and international health officials.
The CDC has advised travellers to Wuhan City to avoid contact with sick people, and also to avoid both live and dead animals.
If you have an upcoming visit to China, take care to frequently wash your hands with warm water and soap, and carry hand sanitizer for times when water and soap are unavailable.

Lake Taupo. It has been "hot as" on the North Island so jumping in and out all afternoon was the perfect reprieve
Decided on a break from the constant moving, took some twists and turns and a few one way roads and ended up at a campground in the midst of mountains. Lounged in the river. Got to have our FIRST campfire of the trip. Something about a campfire makes everything feel complete. .
If you've ever been around Tyler, you know he is allergic to everything. That is, until we arrived in New Zealand. They have all but disappeared for him. And have transferred to Layna. So after a few sneezy, watery eyes days, we are back on the road.

Life isn't always sunshine and beaches. Some days are good and some aren't. But if you're lucky, you get to wake up and try again tomorrow. .
After a few days of aimless wandering, we weren't sure what to do. Our plans to hike a bunch this week weren't meant to be as Ty is nursing a sore foot. Feeling a little defeated and unsure, we treated ourselves to breakfast, headed to Whanganui and happened upon their Vintage Weekend. We spent the day surrounded by vintage costumes, cars, music and all the food. We then took in a movie without having to worry about any batteries dying. Great day with the best partner
Not too long ago I found myself in Tampa, Florida for a class trip. While there, we ate at a restaurant with the entire Youth Ministry Class. Twenty minutes into being there, myself and some friends noticed a couple of teenagers conducting an impromptu photo shoot on the patio, a process which lasted nearly a half-hour. It was obviously a local custom held in high esteem by the natives, so we decided to also conduct a photoshoot... with the teenage girls sitting six feet away. It is possible that they thought we were trolling them. It is also possible that they did not notice us. Needless to say, it was an enlightening cultural experience. In order to experience it to the fullest, I even used VSCO. I guess I’m a VSCO-boy.
TRAVEL TIP TUESDAY: This may be a boring topic for some but I won’t get tired writing about it cause it’s hella’ important.
I recently met a friend in a grocery store and after exchanging our his and hellos, she shared to me how she unexpectedly spent more than $1000 because of some travel issues she encountered on her way back to Canada. She regretted that she didn’t listen to her travel advisor when she offered her to get a travel insurance. She should have just spent less than $100 for her travel insurance rather than spending $1000 more for not having it.
Yes, there may be trips that you purchased a travel insurance but nothing happened and you didn’t benefit from it. As much as you want to carefully plan your itinerary, travelling can be so unpredictable, there is always something bound to happen and you wouldn’t like to throw in extra thousand bucks when these unfortunate incidents happen.
Wise travellers, worry free because they know they are covered.
Drove 8 whole kilometers to our next spot. Couldn't resist another day on the beach, freedom camping is the best

Had the best breakfast, headed north, checked out the Whangarei Falls and then found our home for the night. Drove up to this beach, almost cried because my dreams have come true, jumped in our jandals and togs, ran for the water.

Savvy travellers know that sun protection is part of every packing list. Some sun is great, but too much of a good thing can end in painful sunburns, heatstroke and other serious health consequences long term. So whether you're soaking up the sun on the beach 🏖️, taking in the sights on foot 🏰, or even hitting the ski slopes ⛷️, here are some tips for you:
1) Use a moisturizer with SPF to protect your face from daily sun exposure and the wrinkles caused by UV light.
2) If you will be in the sun for extend periods of time, apply (and reapply!) sunscreen with a high SPF factor to exposed areas of skin.
3) Wear polarized sunglasses to protect your eyes.
4) Wear a hat to protect your face and scalp.
5) Drink lots of water to keep hydrated.

Itching for a colorful road trip! Last year we were in Ottawa for Thanksgiving and enjoyed some lovely outdoor views. I looked at booking a last min weekend getaway last night but that didn't happen so I'll be taking your advice (via my instastory) to visit a local farm or pumpkin patch. Send me your recos on where we should go!! #MurphysDoOttawa
