I promised a little perspective from our hike in Toadstool Hoodos. Mike (my very cautious yet infinitely responsible millennial adult son chaperone--yes, I need one to ensure I dont go blindly where no senior citizen has ever tread before) peeks out from behind a rocky giant while I, flip to the next photo, demonstrate how tall that rock face really is. And no, I did not just rapell down so that Mike could catch me in a ta-da moment. That will have to wait till next year. And please dont tell him I'm even thinking about it or he will go and hide my car keys.
The first view of @archesnps since I was a little kid. Snow on the red rocks made for a spectacular sight. Me trying to walk on icy paths without my boots...less of a sight but exponentially more entertaining. As I’ve said before, get to this part of the country in winter.

I like to think we’re not very anxious parents—we want our kids to take measured risks, challenge themselves, and learn to set the boundaries they feel comfortable with. It helps that both of them are naturally pretty cautious and that they’ve had lots of opportunities to assess risk for themselves as we’ve spent so much of their lives exploring outside together. •••
BUT THEN something about this last few months of pregnancy has started to amp up my anxiety enormously. I’m mostly worried about the baby—some nights I can barely sleep thinking of all the what if’s (and I want so badly to sleep! I adore sleep! And I know it’ll be in short supply soon 😂!) Up to this point, I’ve felt confident that we’d get through the coming months one day at a time, trusting our instincts with this little guy. I still want to do that. But anxiety can be so tricky to disentangle from intuition—what if those niggling voices in my head about stillbirths and SIDS and all the millions of other things that could go wrong are actually prescient warnings from some wise inner part of myself? What if my fear is a red flag that means I should be on guard? I don’t think it is—I think anxiety’s lie is in making you feel that worrying can prevent bad outcomes. But anxiety is soooo good at lying! It’s a very convincing little bastard. And sometimes I recognize it for what it is and I’m able to guide it out of my brain and firmly shut the door. And other times, not so much.
All this to say—pregnancy hormones are super way fun 😉. But also: how do YOU detangle your solid, trustworthy instincts from all the crazy???
For this shot, simply roll out of bed (The View Hotel) just after sunrise, open balcony door and “click.” Wow!
I will tell you that I was bummed to see the clouds rolling in and the forecast for snow on the day I was leaving. 😤Capturing these buttes covered in snow is so special.
Wouldn’t ya know, on my drive out it’s dumping snow (I’ll post a video in story). Oh well, can’t win ‘em all. 😄
We’re heading out of Moab today with full hearts and a whole lot of memories! ↟ ↟ ↟
So glad we had such a special birthday trip for Ivy, and it’s not even over yet. Spending a few days in Salt Lake and then heading to Colorado later in the week to wrap up our adventures out in the most beautiful places!!
