This past Saturday night @slovis had plans to go with two friends of hers who she had been in the Peace Corps with in South Africa, to see #gregorymaqoma ‘s #vuyanidancetheatre from #southafrica do “Cion: Requiem of Ravel’s Bolero” at #kennedycenter . I was also attending along with others . Sadly, one of @slovis ‘ Peace Corps friends , Mara Wilson, suddenly passed away after a short illness shortly before the show. The rest of us went to the performance, which turned out to focus on mourning in a graveyard. Via #isicathamiya a capella singing & beatbox rapping plus South African meets hiphop dancing, the intense program seemed to aptly capture the mood for those who attended. @slovis found that is was about finding strength at a time of loss, and was a proper tribute to her friend, a teacher and artist who loved dance, music, and South Africa. #zulu#xhosa#toloki#zakesmda#cion#dcevents#washingtondc

Anacostia is just one neighborhood East of the River. Together, Wards 7 and 8 have 45 neighborhoods where one fourth of Washingtonians live. To know this city, we must walk the streets of every Ward. Here’s where to start in Wards 7 and 8: 1) Anacostia Arts Center, a cultural center with free monthly yoga on the first and third Saturdays, a bookstore, vintage stores, and a cafe, 2) Frederick Douglass House, an abolitionist’s historic home on Cedar Hill, 3) Our Lady of Perpetual Help, a parish with an unobstructed view of the city, 4) Anacostia Skating Pavilion, the only outdoor skating area in the city, 5) Anacostia Park, one of the city’s largest parks leading to an aquatic garden, 6) Open Crumb, a small restaurant that makes a fried chicken sandwich rivaling the best, 7) MLK Deli, a basement Congress Heights deli crafting unique sandwiches, 8) Shrimp Boat Plaza, a shopping center with a stand selling made-to-order doughnuts, 9) Francis A. Gregory Public Library, designed by the same man who created the National Museum of African American History and Culture, 10) Bellevue Public Library, a uniquely designed library reminiscent of a tree house, 11) Fort Dupont, a park/former Civil War defense that hosts summer concerts, 12) Fort Dupont Ice Arena, an indoor rink run as a non-profit, 13) Thai Orchid’s Kitchen, a Thai restaurant serving excellent green curry out of a mural painted building, 14) Hillcrest, a neighborhood with beautiful, historic homes worth a stroll.

These results are so amazing, is a caption really necessary for this one? It's not, but we'll give you one anyway. Here's what Dr. Naz had to say about this "tricky" procedure: "A patient of mine who had underwent previous surgery for skin cancer with recurrence of skin cancer on the same site! These cases are slightly trickier given scarring from previous surgery and repair. I closed the defect meticulously while ensuring that the patient doesn’t develop scarring that would change the contour of the eyelid or scar it down. The idea is to make it look like the cancer was never there. That way the patient doesn’t have a reminder of their cancer and can move on with their lives. It’s something I take great pride in and try my best to achieve." — Posted @withregram • @drmaryamnaz
I would be modeling anywhere even inside the metro station in the morning! 😂 I am always up for new challenges! Honestly, it’s hard to take pictures with no people in the background because the escalator is the longest in the West hemisphere! I’m glad my photographer, @mastershots123, aced the shoot! 🔥 Guess which metro station in DC we were at? 🚊
