Thought I’d share some more shots of this colourful wedding suite from last year. The couple requested wild foliage watercolour with splashes of navy and copper which paired perfectly with the more loopy and playful lettering style which featured throughout - so fun to create!
ANNIVERSARY • one year on from our last wedding flower job. @emily_janssens you looked so so beautiful and your family were so beautiful to me on the day. An incredibly emotional day for me, as I hung the floral arch on a ladder (with Emily’s dad) my 9 month old son flew literally overhead in a helicopter critically ill. It was a surreal and life changing moment. I am so proud to have delivered the florals as I had planned and remained as calm as I possibly could. It’s a crazy business - events. We are so aware that our clients only get this one special day and after working closely for so many months beforehand we couldn’t possibly let them down. Also good to note that my husband @thegridhouse was in the helicopter and I trust him completely with making decisions for our family. We only do select florals now as our focus is on stationery but the drive to meet our clients expectations hasn’t changed. X
LOML • happy 💗 day to this guy. @thegridhouse / @nashyp .
“To love someone long-term is to attend a thousand funerals of the people they used to be. .
The people they’re too exhausted to be any longer. .
The people they don’t recognise inside themselves anymore. .
The people they grew out of, the people they never ended up growing into. .
We so badly want the people we love to get their spark back when it burns out; to become speedily found when they are lost. .
But it is not our job to hold anyone accountable to the people they used to be. .
It is our job to travel with them between each version and to honour what emerges along the way. .
Sometimes it will be an even more luminescent flame. .
Sometimes it will be a flicker that disappears and temporarily floods the room with a perfect and necessary darkness.” @heidipriebe this is perfection. 📸 by @mylensoflove

I was reading another artists post the other day, she was saying that we are told to always look forward, never look back. But she also recognised that looking back to see how far you've come is a good thing. So I'm looking back on one of my very first wedding invite designs that is still successful years later. My designs have evolved and this year you will see new designs coming out soon that are different from last year, I'm really excited for a little change...i hope you are too!

TIME OUT POEM • Who made the world?
Who made the swan, and the black bear?
Who made the grasshopper?
This grasshopper, I mean-
the one who has flung herself out of the grass,
the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,
who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down-
who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.
Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face.
Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away.
I don't know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?
. By the divine natural poet Mary Oliver @maryoliverpoetry

FROM LITTLE THINGS... • a lot of focus has been on our larger, cuter and furrier animals. Rightly so, koalas ARE adorable. My heart is all sorts of squeezy about them too don’t worry...but there’s billions (yes...billions) of lives that haven’t been officially counted in the total animal loss. This includes reptiles, bats, insects and everything in between. .
Last year I combined forces with @bry_the_fly_guy and and we chatted about unlikely pollinators that needed some love. Bees aren’t our only pollinators you know! It’s for a project I’ve got going on this year. When researching I came across this Australian bee. With an astounding iridescence I couldn’t entirely capture, the green carpenter bee (Xylocopa aeratus) is very distinctive. It nests in dry flowering stalks of yaccas and in trunks and branches of dead banksia.
The green carpenter bee was once prolific from northern New South Wales down to KI. Now, the bees are only found in scattered areas along the east coast of Australia and on Kangaroo island – the last foothold in southern Australia. Land clearing has destroyed many carpenter bee nest sites on the mainland, and it is believed that the devastating 2007 bushfires on KI also may have drastically reduced the bees’ native habitat in Flinders Chase National Park. We’re yet to know how many hives have survived these fires. .
I’ll now be expanding my original perhaps of pollinators and hopefully including some beautiful bats.
Ecosystems are minutely intricate, it’s going to take a huge effort to restore our beautiful country from the soil up.

MY BIT • I’ve been a bit quiet, it’s because my heart is breaking. That’s no exaggeration, I’ve been walking around numbly trying to comprehend the scale of our ecological disaster. I feel for the humans affected by this tragedy, I do. But my heart and being aches for our wildlife. All my life I’ve studied and admired our unique biodiversity and these fires will irrevocably change our landscape. Yes, there has been fires before, yes it IS a natural occurrence. But combined with urban expansion, over spraying, disease and natural mismanagement populations of our wildlife won’t have a chance to recover. In the next few weeks I will be pulling together a list of suggestions for the way forward from a range of ecologists, biologists, scientists and vets to present to our state environment board. But in the meantime, this is my contribution. I have 10 of these 50x50cm mandalas, called Hope. They are $250 each and 100% of the profit will go to @sydney_wildlife_rescue an organisation I’ve had the pleasure of utilising and respect so much. They will need our help.

I designed this invitation for beautiful Reenu & Naveen a while ago, but having my own 10th wedding anniversary recently myself, it made me stop, remember and think just how special this milestone is. Loved creating these beautiful event preludes for them. A splash of red watercolour on a marble background, with premium rich gold foil stamping. Just love them ❤️
Congrats to the happy couple - better late than never hey 😉

- “Oh let us turn our thoughts today
To Martin Luther King
And recognize that there are ties between us
All men and women living on the Earth
Ties of hope and love
Sister and brotherhood
That we are bound together
In our desire to see the world become
A place in which our children can grow free and strong
We are bound together by the task that stands before us
And the road that lies ahead
We are bound and we are bound”
I first heard this song covered by Amy Mann on The West Wing; a haven of liberal politics, that has never felt further away.
I am an activist and artist (some say the two come hand in hand) and whilst I promise to fill your feed with beautiful hand painted stationery, I will also stand up for what I believe in. 🌿
