So, before I really dive deep into what I am about to say I just want to say THANKS to all our amazing clients that trust us on their big day. We always feel honored to be apart of such a big moment in time for you guys. I had a young lady the other day in my chair tell me she was thinking about going into the hair and makeup industry when she completed high school. She wanted to know my thoughts on it, and the be honest, I feel like she wanted me to rant and rave about how much I love my job which would then in return make her feel like she was making the right career path. I love my job (don’t get me wrong) …And please do not take this post as a meaning of negativity I just want to make sure the whole truth (good and ugly) can be told about becoming a makep up artist or hair stylist. I want to be up front and spill the nitty gritty that no one will tell you about the job. I want to start off with the positives before I dive into negatives. Positives:We get to meet so many amazing people that become Family to us, you get to become friends with other beauty specialist (Some of my very best friends are in the industry), You get discounts on hair and make-up products, you get to make people feel their best and be a positive change to someone.
Negatives:Long long (did I say LONG) hours on your feet every day, NEVER having a weekend off, sacrificing social life and family life for early (like 4 AM) through the night, Clients contacting you at all hours of the night and morning (which in return makes it really hard to switch yourself “off” from work), suffering back problems, days where you forget to eat or drink because you are having to take clients back to back, People expecting you to work for free or for little to nothing because they have a family friend that does it on the side so they could get it cheaper…..So, you get the drift. Its not all fun and games. It is hard work we stylist have every day. It takes a lot of money to make it in this industry. Your kit should be made up of good products which in return cost good money. You might be asking now, so why do you do it then? What makes it worth it? Seeing this picture and getting Texts like—>
