This was taken at the Louvre (yes, THAT Louvre), but it's not in Paris. This is the world's first "franchised" location of the world's most famous museum. Want one in your city? The Emirati government coughed up a cool $1.2 billion USD for the rights here in Abu Dhabi (for context, that's about 12 years of the original Louvre's ticket revenue, or almost half a Mona Lisa 🙃.)
This is Sheikh Zayed Road, the main thoroughfare in Dubai. There's also a Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Sheikh Zayed University, Sheikh Zayed Bridge, Sheikh Zayed International Airport, Sheikh Zayed Mosque and Sheikh Zayed Palace Museum. Perhaps you've sensed a pattern here - they really like Sheikh Zayed 🙃.
The tallest building in the world towers over the Emirati desert. I remember writing a "current events report" about the Burj Khalifa being completed when I was in 8th grade, and I've tried to envision it's 828m compared to other skyscrapers I've seen since. Finally seeing it in person a decade later was really something else for my lil Civil Engineering brain.
