The Dock Yard bar is situated in the historical sandstone courtyards of The Rocks and was inspired by the many sailors and merchants in the area in the 1800’s.
The Rocks was the link with the wider world, a place of new ideas, things and people, with sailors from all over the world on shore leave, and with the constant movement of people and goods through the port.
I first noticed this old label style bottle of @knappoguewhiskey 12 Year Single Malt Irish Whiskey on the shelf at one of my favorite little liquor stores a couple of years ago. Back then there were a couple of them. Every time I would go in there I would think about buying it, but I'd always end up with something else instead. Today I stopped by and there was only one left, so I figured it was now or never. The price was certainly right at $33, which is at least $12 less than any other store in the area. Based on the laser code I would assume it was bottled in 2013, which helps explain why the cork just split in two as soon as I tried to open it. Thankfully, some very careful corkscrew work prevented it from falling into the bottle.
This whiskey turned out to be a little surprising. The nose is sweet. My first thought was bubble gum. Further investigation uncovers notes of honey, vanilla, apple, and cereal. The taste starts off sweet as well with the same notes of honey, vanilla, and apple but then it finishes much spicier than I was expecting. Black pepper and chili pepper. It's not enough to ruin the experience, but it certainly detracts from the overall taste. I've read that this bottle was made by Cooley but the newer bottles are from Bushmills, so the experience might differ with the newer bottles.
I was hoping I'd love this but, while I certainly don't hate it, it was a bit of a disappointment. The flavor wasn't bad but nothing really stood out about it other than the spiciness, and that wasn't a positive. Hopefully I'll get a chance to try a newer bottle for comparison's sake. #knappoguecastle12#knappoguecastlewhiskey#knappoguewhiskey#irishwhiskey#irishsinglemalt#singlemalt#whiskey#whiskeygram#whisky#whiskygram#whiskeyneat#whiskyneat#thirstythursday
Jefferson's Very Small Batch In 1997 Trey Zoeller and his father Chet launched Jefferson’s Bourbon. Trey created the company McClain & Kyne to bottle Jefferson's which is still used to this day. In 2005, Castle Brands purchased McClain & Kyne which held ownership of the Jefferson’s name. Up until 2015, Jefferson’s was distilled by various distilleries. In 2015 Castle Brands purchased a 20% share in the Copperhead Distillery Company. Copperhead owns and operates Kentucky Artisan Distillery, which is rumored to now supply approximately 25% of the bourbon used in Jefferson’s Very Small Batch Bourbon.

Tonight’s pour is a deep cut from the collection. A Chicken Cock Whiskey Co. Bootlegger’s Reserve, which is a limited edition 90 proof blend of bourbon and rye. There’s no age statement, but it tastes, looks and feels young - both on the bourbon and rye sides. It’s good, not great, and surprisingly not-complex. A fun one for the collection, a nice occasional pour, but not my favorite bourbon/rye blend. Love the label though. #chickencock#bootlegger#bootleggersreserve#whiskey#whisky#whiskeytolife#bourbon#rye#tonightspour
There's Always Money in the Banana Stand 🍌🙊
Finally getting around to exploring the Minimalist Tiki book by @cocktailwonk 🤓 My wife loves Scotch based cocktails. But she HATES bananas. Yet she still really liked this drink. I don't think banana Liqueurs are really as banana-y as we really think they ARE 🤷🏽♂️... Though I'm a cheapo and make my own so maybe the commercial ones taste more intense? Anywho, this drink is MUY DELICIOSO 😋 and I can always appreciate an Arrested Development reference #theresalwaysmoneyinthebananastand

A pleasure to the eyes and soul to be back at the Arts & Letters Club on Elm Street, St. George’s Hall is a gorgeous sight to behold and another world across the street from @barberianssteakhouse a place where making friends and influencing people with @theglenturretwhisky comes naturally. All in the name of Robbie Burns, a tad early mind you, and why not? The Glenturret is Scotland’s oldest working distillery, since 1775 in the taxman’s books and still (no pun intended) going steadily on strong. True craft spirits, made by hand and by heart.

It was so cold here yesterday that they had to keep the PENGUINS 🐧 indoor at our local zoo. No word of a lie these animals that have adapted to exist in the harshest conditions on earth could not go for their daily zoo walk due to the extreme cold we are currently experiencing.... screwwwww this, pass the whisky 🥃🥃😖
