Haven't posted penguin content for a while and there can't be enough penguins around 🙂🐧. This is a Magellanic penguin in a popular place called Punta Tombo in North Patagonia, Argentina. It's the biggest colony of Magellanic penguins worldwide. There are over 200.000 couples that mate there every year. During winter they migrate to warmer regions in Southern Brazil, e.g. in the area of Rio de Janeiro. Can't blame them. And the penguins that live in Southern Patagonia, e.g. Tierra del Fuego or Falkland Islands migrate north to Punta Tombo because its milder temperatures.
In the picture you can see a Magellanic penguin calling for his partner who probably preyes for food in the sea while the one staying on land is taking care of the eggs/chicks. Every call is different and so penguins can find their partner among thousands of penguins. I went there during the breeding season and there were a lot of cute chicks around 🙂. Every couple has a little underground nesting site which they have to defend from predators. I could have spent there days watching the penguins, unfortunately I had to leave after nearly 2 hours. Next time I would plan for longer 😊. And would bring a better telephoto lens. The autofocus of my cheap kit lens (which I had brought because of the light weight) died the day before, so had to focus manually all the time, what a bummer with so many animals around. #penguin#penguins#magellanicpenguin#puntatombo#argentina#patagonia
What you are looking at is a mixing of freshwater and seawater.
An estuary produces high levels of nutrients making estuaries a productive natural habitat. Many animals rely on estuaries for food, places to breed, and migration stopovers.
When freshwater and seawater combine, the water becomes brackish, or slightly salty.
What is interesting to me is how clearly you can see the more dense seawater flowing underneath the glacial river, forming this visible line.
Some of you may recognise these rock formations as they are one of the default wallpapers on Microsoft Windows 10 operating system. This beautiful beach can be found on the very North tip of the South Island and well worth the drive for views like this

I have always loved the sound of a train whistle. It takes me back to a different time. For some reason, it reminds me of childhood, even though I didn’t grow up anywhere close to train tracks. We now live less than a mile away from a train station. Those whistles punctuate our life daily, sometimes I feel like I could even set our clocks around the times when the trains come by. In the winter, the silence is so pronounced that we can even hear the rumbling of the train on the tracks all the way down at Lake McDonald.
Our neighborhood is very quiet in the winter. Almost every single one of our neighbors spend the season in a state much warmer than Montana. We sometimes can feel very alone and isolated out here, especially in a storm or at night. But then I hear that train whistle pierce through the silence and I am reminded that there are other humans not so very far away. It can be a comforting feeling. And maybe that’s why the sound reminds me of childhood. Is there a sound that makes you feel this way?

After a long drive to the west coast we made it to Tongaporutu just in time for sunset. And it was the most beautiful sunset I've seen for a long time! With this perfectly clear view we even able to see Mount Taranaki in the distance 🌅

It feels so good to be back exploring Thailand! 🛵💨
After about a day of recovering from jet lag, I rented a scooter in Phuket and drove an hour North to Phang Nga Bay. I’d seen photos before but nothing compares to seeing things like this in person! #AllAboutAdventures

The Matterhorn is easily one of the coolest mountains I’ve ever seen. There must’ve at least a been million of pictures of it I saw previously, but like many other things nothing beats seeing it in person. It’s really fascinating seeing the angle of the mountain change as you ride the train up towards the top. From this angle is definitely looks even more pointy. I’d love to come back here in the summer and experience it with a beautiful lake view ☺️
