Need another trip idea? Well, the next stop on our month of beautiful winter destinations will have you thinking ‘Happily Ever After.’ Travellers, it’s time for you to visit ‘Kirkjufell,’ Iceland.
Located near the town of Grundarfjörður, Kirkjufell is a 463 m high mountain on the north coast of Iceland's Snæfellsnes peninsula. This beautiful landmark arguably put the small town of Grundarfjörður, with a population of a mere 900 people, on the map. It is the most photographed mountain in Iceland and rightfully so, Kirkjufell is a mountain that looks straight out of a fairytale. Its isolated position jutting out into the sea makes it a focal point for tourists and seamen alike. This unusually shaped mountain is pretty enough in the springtime, but becomes truly beautiful once it gets a layer of snow. While it is no doubt a favourite subject of nature photographers, but it’s even better when seen in real life. Surrounded by beaches, Kirkjufell has a lovely walking trail around it as well as a more challenging climb up to the top where bird and fish fossils can be found.
